Part 1: One of the most important decisions in purchasing a juicer is knowing which juicer is right for your lifestyle.   If you don’t use your juicer, then you will not experience any of the wonderful health benefits of juicing.

There are 7 main types of juicers on the market today:  Centrifugal, Single-Gear (Masticating), Vertical Single Auger, Twin-Gear (Triturating)Wheatgrass, Citrus, and Manual Press.   Unfortunately, there is no “perfect” juicer.  I cannot tell you which one to buy — you will need to find the one that is right for you.

Things to consider when purchasing a juicer:

  1. How much time are you willing to dedicate to juicing? (i.e., time to prep the produce, clean and assemble/disassemble the juicer, etc.)
  2. What produce are you planning to juice?
  3. Are you juicing for health (e.g., cancer), or just for your enjoyment?
  4. Are you planning on juicing every day?  (i.e., or do you want to store your juice)
  5. Are you planning on making any other foods with your juicer?  (i.e., like nut butters or sorbet)
  6. How much countertop space do you have?
  7. Would you like to juice citrus fruits or wheatgrass?
  8. Is money a factor?
  9. Does it matter how loud the juicer is?
  10. Is a longer warranty important to you?

These are just a few questions you should ask yourself prior to making a juicer purchase; otherwise you may end up buying a juicer that is not right for you, and it will just sit in the cabinet and never get used.  Over the next few blog posts, I will provide you a detailed list that classifies the juicers by type and function to assist you in deciding which juicer is best for you.

Next post, I will be discussing the first type of juicer, the Centrifugal Juicers.
